We finished our time in Japan and made it to India!
Hair Spa, massage, packing, travel and our new home!
Our last day in Japan was a very relaxing one. We did our last pack up, cleaned up the hotel room and went to breakfast. We are definitely going to miss all of the cute kid things in Japan!
After breakfast Daniel and James walked me to my travel splurge! Back story: so I have a hard time relaxing and calming my brain before bed. Call it what you will, but a few years ago I found something that really helps me wind down. I found a YouTube creator that goes to different spas around Japan and records the experiences. Something about the relaxing sounds and personal care just really helps. ANYWAY, after over 5 years of subscribing to her channel on YouTube, she announced she was opening her own Hair Spa in Japan! AND it was going to open while I was in Japan! The coincidence was next level. I waited for opening day on her website and was able to grab an appointment a couple months ago! This was a big fan girl moment for me. The experience was INCREDIBLE!
We need something like this back in America! My scalp has never been so clean! 2.5 hours later I walked out feeling rejuvenated and like a new woman. Obviously the creator wasn’t there, but it was so cool to see someone I have appreciated over the years create something so amazing.
Daniel and James returned and we got back on the metro to head back to the hotel. James met a friend and she loved to take pictures of James and share about her life. Surprisingly she was from France! They talked and laughed for a long time.
We finished packing and went to bed. We had an early morning and about a 2 hour metro ride to the airport to look forward too. We were so sad to be leaving Japan. It really has been an incredible experience and there are many things I am going to miss. The people, history, food, cleanliness, respect people show each other…really I’m going to miss everything! BUT our lives must continue and our travel journey isn’t close to being over yet. Let’s head to India!
Before our flight we found a nice place for James to run around and burn off some “energy beans” as he calls it. Surprisingly (HAHA) there are not many flight options to go from Tokyo, Japan to Bangalore, India. We went with Sri Lankan Airlines. It was that or a smaller plane that stopped in Hong Kong along the way. I’m adventurous, but I wasn’t feeling too excited about having a long day+ layover on China at the moment. We boarded our flight, had the worst turbulence ever and then these two crazies slept for a while. James is so ridiculously easy to travel with. He’s mostly down for whatever and really loves his parents so win, win, win! Unfortunately, I couldn’t sleep. Out of the 4 screens we had, only one worked. I watched one movie before that screen froze and stopped working as well. I then just stared at the flight map and listened to music for the next 5 hours. After 9+ hours we landed in Sri Lanka and found a spot to put all our stuff for our 4 hour layover.
We had a 1 hour connecting flight from Sri Lanka to Bangalore. The flight went smoothly and we all slept. We arrived at 3:00am and got off the plane and went through Immigration and customs. Our Visas made it SUPER easy and once it was our turn it took just a couple minutes. The airport is FANCY. I wish I could have gotten a picture but my frazzled brain didn’t even register. Daniel’s company set up a driver to the hotel and we made the 1 hour drive to what will be our home for the next 3 months.
We Three are finally in India! BDO did not disappoint! They splurged and got us a suite. Sharing a room with James has been fun, like a 3 week sleepover with a kid that snores; but I’m glad to have our own room and our own bathroom! I’ve missed cooking as well so I’m excited to have a kitchen!
We are unpacked, luggage out away and grocery shopping is about to commence. I also desperately need to find a SIM card. In order to order things, make reservations etc. you need an Indian phone number.
James is EXCITED! We cleaned up and James out on his adorable outfit we found at The Taste Of India expo we went to before leaving the USA. He received many compliments and high fives. He was feeling himself! The added sun and bug protection is great too!
We set out for a grocery store and a in hopes to find a SIM card. We booked our Uber and after 99 Rupees (about .80 cents) we got in our ride!
India is everything and NOTHING like I expected. It is loud, they do beep their horns to let others know they are there, traffic lanes are a suggestion not a requirement, 4 people can fit on one Moped, going to the bathroom outside is a normal occurrence, and Bangalore is THRIVING. So many new constructions are happening everywhere. Replacing the old and creating the new.
Although absolutely bonkers and completely different than anything we have ever experienced, I don’t feel uncomfortable. I think I’m going to love it! We have been told more than once that “you will love it or hate it, nothing in between.”
We love the Tuk Tuk! The way he zigs and zags through traffic is so wild!
Grocery shopping was successful as long as you purchase locally! Trying to get some salmon or melons that have to be imported will cost you an arm and a leg. We went back and decided to explore a bit.
We are out of the hot season in India and into their wet season. Weather will stay in the 80’s which is a relief. We went swimming in the heated pool and enjoyed lunch next to it. The food is incredible so far! Of much flavor and texture!
Our hotel brought in a Turkish ice cream stand and it was also INCREDIBLE. James even got the little show. Hilarious!
That ended our evening! We will be off to more adventures and exploring tomorrow! Daniel starts his first day at work so we will be working with a new schedule and routine! India here we come!
I'm so glad you got a suite. That's such a blessing for everyone that James has his own separate bedroom for the rest of the trip! It didn't surprise me at all that James made a friend on the metro. He's quite charming. Grandpa and I watched the ice cream server's tricks several times...lol. He was very entertaining and James was such a good sport about being teased. I'm sorry you weren't able to sleep on the plane. James was lucky to get to stretch out across 2 seats. We missed you all at Trinity today. David preached. It was sad to walk down the children's church hallway and not see James! Keep the updates coming. I think of you often and wonder what you're up to. I loaded WhatsApp if you ever want to chat! ♥️
James was such a good sport about the ice cream 🤣🤣 I would have been so frustrated. Also cool bc he’s a magician practically but would have rather watched it happen to someone else 🤣🤣
